For many people in the United States and Canada the idea of pet insurance is somewhat foreign. If you go to Europe, however, you will find that between 15-50% of pets have some sort of health insurance while here in North America the percentage of covered pets is about 1-2%. I think the reason that pet insurance hasn’t caught on as much is simple marketing. Most people don’t even know it exists. Those that do know that it exists figure that they have to insure their car, their house, their life, their jewelry, and who knows what else, now they have to insure pets? I think if most people knew how affordable pet insurance was they wouldn’t have a problem paying for it. The reality is that often for less than a dollar a day you can insure your pet for a wide variety of health issues. For those of you who have paid hundreds if not thousands of dollars for pet bills I think you will agree that a nominal amount may very well be worth the investment.
